The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
