The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a girl harboring multiple human souls within her must escape from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with their own fears and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large flowers growing from their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players believes a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
