Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
