Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results like these.”
Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
