Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
